Your homework and your information

Last updated: 17 October 2026

01About this notice

Cognya helps your tutor set homework and see your answers. It is run by Fayyad Uddin trading as Cognya.

02Who can use the homework portal?

You must be 14 or older. Your tutor must check and confirm this before giving you homework access. Being in Year 9 does not automatically mean you are old enough.

03What can my tutor see?

Your tutor can see the homework you complete, your answers, marks, attempts and when you answer. They can also keep information about the subjects you study and your progress. You do not need to create an account or give Cognya your email address.

Another tutor cannot access your records through their own tutor account.

04How is my work marked?

Some answers are checked against numbers, keywords or other rules. Some longer written answers are sent to an AI service called OpenAI, along with the question and mark scheme, so it can suggest a mark.

We do not deliberately include your name or homework code in the AI request. But anything you type in your answer can be included. Do not write your address, phone number, password, school details or other private information in your answers.

Marking can be wrong. Your tutor can change AI marks. They cannot currently change rule-based marks in Cognya, but they can report a problem. Tell your tutor if you think a mark is incorrect.

05Can the person running Cognya see my work?

Yes. Cognya’s operator may need to see your work to help your tutor, investigate a problem, or check whether questions are being marked correctly. Your answer may still be connected to your student record when viewed. These checks are about whether Cognya works, rather than following your individual progress for Cognya’s own purposes.

The questions and mark schemes can be reused for other tutors. Your homework answers and student records are not part of that shared pool.

06Can I ask a question or have information corrected?

Tell your tutor, ask a parent or guardian to help, or email support@cognya.co.uk. We may need to check who is asking and work with your tutor to protect your information. You can ask how your information is used and raise concerns about quality checks.

Finishing the free trial does not immediately delete your work. If your tutor’s account moves to Free, it will be deleted after 30 days in a row without the tutor signing in or a student doing homework through that account. Your homework activity can keep the account active. We warn the tutor before deletion. This automatic rule does not apply while their paid subscription or Pro beta is active. Your tutor also has controls to delete students and homework.

Your records are stored in Cognya’s Supabase project in Ireland. Other companies also help run the service, so not all processing necessarily happens there. The full Privacy Policy explains retention, those companies and your rights.
